Ghostbusters Theme and Trailer
Okay so one of the biggest controversies in recent movie history is the new Ghostbusters movie. In July this year we are going to be graced with yes- a reboot- to the seminal 19984 classic 'Ghostbusters.' A reboot in which the original never happened. A reboot in which Melissa McCarthy, Kirsten Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones form the Ghostbusting crew. Same premise, different gender.
And the world has gone crazy! People have gotten so irate with the idea of a female lead Ghostbusters and I've always distanced myself from that rhetoric. So what if they're women! Kirsten Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are brilliant and I've heard good things about Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Let's wait until the movie comes out.
The trailer was okay. It got me intrigued. Paul Fieg the director seemed to have encapsulated the humour and style of a ghostbusters movie whilst also dragging the visuals into the 21st Century. What I didn't like was the character protrayal. Maybe it was how they have sown the trailer together but I wasn't a fan and this is where I started to get concerns. Melissa McCarthy and Kirsten Wiig are basically playing themselves. There was no attempt to try and show us that these people are in fact just acting. And Leslie Jones character? It's just confusing. In a movie that tries and makes the team women in order to be more forward thinking and socially acceptable, what do they make the obligatory black character? A scientist like the reest of them? Oh no! She's a street smart, sassy Subway worker. Ugh.
That gripe aside the trailer did perk my interest at the very least. It looks like it'll be a fun, entertaining movie. Albeit one that lacks any substance or depth in characteer but what can we expect from a Ghostbusters franchise?
Then yesterday the theme song was released. Performed by Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliot it is awful. There was no need to redo the classic and definitely no need to be done so badly. It is a mess. This is where I draw the line. It is this freaky mix of hard rock and rap. It sounds dreadful. Please go check it out but please brace your ears for what you'll hear. I am so ashamed not only at the makers of this movie but also at Fall Out Boy. I love them and I am so disappointed at the quality of this soundtrack.
Guys I am in two minds about this movie. I hope it's good I really do. I love the director, the cast and the premise but I have a horrible feeling that this will bomb purely cause of peoples apprehension of an all female cast. I do not want this to be 2016's Fant4stic. Possibly the worst movie I have ever seen.
Only time will tell so all I can really say is go out and see it on July 15th. What can go wrong? I mean the studio is Sony and when have Sony last made a bad movie? *cough cough* Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2 *cough cough* Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles *cough cough*
