Ghostbusters Theme and Trailer

Okay so one of the biggest controversies in recent movie history is the new Ghostbusters movie. In July this year we are going to be graced with yes- a reboot- to the seminal 19984 classic 'Ghostbusters.' A reboot in which the original never happened. A reboot in which Melissa McCarthy, Kirsten Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones form the Ghostbusting crew. Same premise, different gender. And the world has gone crazy! People have gotten so irate with the idea of a female lead Ghostbusters and I've always distanced myself from that rhetoric. So what if they're women! Kirsten Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are brilliant and I've heard good things about Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Let's wait until the movie comes out. The trailer was okay. It got me intrigued. Paul Fieg the director seemed to have encapsulated the humour and style of a ghostbusters movie whilst also dragging the visuals into the 21st Century. What I didn't like was the character protrayal. ...

The Secret Life of Pets

So 'The Secret Life of Pets' is a new release, just out this last weekend, starring Louis CK and Kevin Hart and tells the story of Max, a pampered New York pet living a life a luxury with his owner Katie until one day she comes home with a huge dog named Duke. They don't get along and they end up getting lost in the city, needing to work together to find a way home. Now my biggest grip with this movie as I exited the theatre on Saturday was I have seen this all before. Toy Story and The Secret Life of Pets are one and the same movie. Something that lives a pampered life, not talking when their owner is around, experiences upheaval when a new toy or dog in this case is introduced and they slowly become the best of friends. It's paint by numbers, but the colours being used are really really vibrant. Despite the parallels between this and Toy Story I still had a lot of fun. The character of Snowball, a street rabbit hell bent on destroying the establishment, was hilari...

Captain America: Civil War

Okay so 'Captain America:Civil War' is the direct sequel to the 2014 superhero masterclass that was The Winter Soldier and an indirect sequel to last years 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' which is directed by returnees Joe and Anthony Russo. In this Steve Rogers is continuing to train the new Avengers (Scarlet Witch, Vision, War Machine and Falcon) with Scarlet Johannson's Black Widow when suddenly disaster strikes again and public opinion towards the Avengers slips given the battles in New York, Sokovia and Washington DC. People want the Avengers to be accountable to the United Nations and only called into action when a UN Committee decides it is necessary. The leader of the Avengers, Captain America, disagrees with what is named the 'Sokovia Accords' whereas Iron Man, the Avengers bank roller, sides with the government after his conscious is shocked after the events he created in Sokovia. And hence, the other Avengers all take sides and a civil war ensues when S...
